Using Clean Energy to Reap Cash Rewards

On Monday the Government announced a new scheme that will offer cash rewards to households and communities that use cleaner forms of energy, known as Feed in Tariffs. This is a key part of the Labour Government’s real commitment to a low carbon economy.

The Feed in Tariffs scheme will provide a guaranteed cash return for households, communities and businesses that generate up to 5 megawatts of their own clean energy. Examples of technology that can be used for this scheme includes; solar panels, small scale wind and hydro generation. This scheme offers a real incentive for people to use cleaner and more efficient forms of energy.

After the scheme’s introduction in April we anticipate that up to 700,000 people will have installed clean energy technology, by 2020. Anyone taking part in the scheme will be paid for the electricity that they generate, even if they use it themselves. Further payments will be received should they link their technology to the national grid.

At a time where solving the issue Climate Change is of fundamental importance, the Government is showing that it is truly committed to converting Britain into a low carbon economy. This is in sharp contrast to the Tories swiftly unravelling policy, which ‘promised’ to give £6500 worth of energy efficient improvements to every household, but in fact will, on average, only offer £1500 per household.
